I saw a thing on facebook. I have a lot of KJVO friends and I am fine with them being that way. This meme. I think they call them, said satan said he had convinced many that any Bible is ok.
I think instead satan has distracted us away from our true purpose.
Our purpose is to lead people to the cross and salvation. Not argue over which Bible to use to do it This to me is an example of vain arguing that Paul warned against in Titus 3 and 2 Timothy 2. All scripture is declared good for learning and instruction. 2 Timothy 3. I don't believe God limited his statements to just then. I think he was telling us not to engage in this kind of issue and instead to focus on teaching Christ Crucified.
As long as the Bible you use can be used for God's purpose, to lead people to a knowledge of him and his son, it is a Bible to use.
I really think we do a serious disservice to our Lord and his message by arguing over which Bible to use. It is like arguing over which apostle to follow. God frowns on that as well. He makes it clear in 1 Corinthians 3. Just food for thought.

I agree, Mel!
I think using different versions helps us to understand the original better, too, especially if we don't have a good teacher.

I have always used several versions and love it. I use German and English versions comparing and seeing which translation is closest to the original (thank you strongs) or, when I translate, which translation is closest to the translation they have used.... I would be careful of Bibles that talk like people talk today. I think there are some out there where you have Jesus saying "Dude". I definitely would draw the line there.

While I believe those Bible can be used to the purpose of leading folks to salvation, I did not like the removal of the awe. I intensely disagree with referring to God the Father as daddy. Makes my skin crawl. Daddy is the guy who plays tea party with his little girl. Father is the one who carries her through eternity.

I've heard it said the best Bible version is the one you'll actually read. I think there is a lot of truth to that. (although I confess to having problems with the casual ones you ladies are talking about.)

FV, the casual ones seem to just take the... splendor away somehow. I think God is splendid and needs to be defined and showcased that way. We need to reverence him with awe and wonder. The daddy type thing makes me feel like they wad him up and toss him in a pile of stuff. (That is the image it brings in my head. A kid, hat on sideways, baggie jeans, chunking a wad of paper over his should onto a pile of wads of paper.)

I've also heard that the KJVO argument of other versions being corrupted plays right into Islam's argument that the Bible is corrupted, hence the need for Allah to send Mohammed. When you lose sight of the fact that your Bible is a translation of an entirely different language, rather than the God-breathed version some KJVO seem to think, then it's easy to prove the points of adherents to a false religion. It's a matter of not following your argument through to its logical conclusion.
I realize that some on here are KJVO and it's absolutely fine to have a favorite translation. No English version is going to be entirely accurate. Too many nuances that are hard to interpret well. But it's important to know why you prefer it and to not fall into a trap with non-Christians.
Children are the most delightful pledges in a loving marriage. They are the best wool on the sheep. - Martin Luther
