I just found out last Thursday that I'm diabetic. The doctor feels that when I was in the hospital last April that the high doses of IV steroids triggered it. She put me on Metformin, one pill twice a day. I'm learning what I can & cannot eat. The doctor did not prescribe a meter for me to check my blood sugar so I'll call her tomorrow to ask about that. When they did blood work last Monday it was 213 fasting which is down from 223 three months ago.

Sorry to hear this! I'm right behind you, right on the borderline of diabetes. I have to be careful with pasta or potatoes or cereal. It knocks me out whenever I eat it.

Gina, remember it isn't that you can't eat. It is just being mindful of what you eat. MJ has been diabetic for years. He no longer takes any medication for it, and he was on insulin for a few months last year even. Emphasize veggies, like broccoli and such, avoid an abundance of potatoes, peas and so on. MJ now, eats what ever he wants but his blood sugar stays in a good place.
when you eat plays a part too. I try not to eat anything after 8 pm. Some nights are easier than others, and some depend on when he gets home from D.
Chances are, you can correct this and get off the meds.

I'm sorry to hear this, Gina. I do hope your doctor recommends a visit with a nutritionist. I had gestational diabetes with 2 of my pregnancies and I met with one during that time and it was so helpful.

Taking cinnamon capsules and/or adding cinnamon to your diet (without excessive carbs) helps to lower blood sugar along with diet and exercise. Especially exercise because he helps your body burn the sugar that is cannot produce the insulin to manage.
