I am determined this year. This is the year to take care of ME. I can't take care of others if I do not take care of me, right? So I discovered an exercise program on you tube call Fabulous 50s. My goal is to build strength, and stamina while losing weight. I plan to do this work out at a minimum 3 days a week. Anyone care to join me?

How is the program going for you, Mel? I've just started a KETO diet this week and am already seeing a small difference in my swelling. That's exciting! I hope I can turn around the pre-diabetes and lymphedema. Wish I was able to exercise, but. . .baby steps.

Well, I weighed in today as it's been a month since I started doing KETO. I'm down 19.5 pounds! So I guess going without carbs is working!

Very nice! Congrats! I am doing ok, working kind of has a wrench in things but when I am alone in the office I do some rehab exercises anyway. Since October I brought my A1C down to 5.9 (from 8.1) My cholesterol down to 108 (from 140 something) and my weight down 13 lbs. This is all with out really trying to do anything. I switched from sugar to splenda and that is pretty much it.

Thanks! One thing I noticed. Remember all the warnings about eating eggs? Well I eat a lot of eggs, mostly boiled but fried in butter for sandwiches and in chaffles. My cholesterol went down. Not up. It isn't the meat or eggs, both of which my consumption of has doubled, that causes that. I have a theory on it but I have no solid answers.

Mel, a long time ago (before I found PH), I read the South Beach Diet. The first half of the book (at least the first half, maybe more, I don't recall) isn't the diet but writing about foods and types of foods. The author is/was a cardiologist and put his patients on this diet for heart health. He only published the "diet" when he noticed they were all losing weight (and now, ironically, he's seen as a weight loss expert). Anyway, he specifically says that eggs - whole eggs - are NOT bad for you.

I'm down another 5 pounds, and brought my A1c down by .5 already. The doctor says I'm doing great and to have a cheat day once in a while if I start getting bored or tempted to fall off the wagon.

I saw the doctor today and am down another 14 pounds from my last visit. That makes a total loss of 45 pounds so far! I could not tell I'd lost anything due to all my swelling, but the scale says otherwise. I'm so happy.

Good afternoon ladies, I need/want to lose weight so I went low carb 12 days ago and I’ve lost five and a half pounds! You can’t see a difference but I feel “less stuffed” if you know what I mean. My goal is for my weight loss to be noticeable when my family is all together for Thanksgiving! Prayers for success would be appreciated! Hugs and God bless, Helen(grammea)

I've hit a bad spot lately and stopped losing weight. Now I'm slowing gaining again. I suspect a lot of this is fluid but it's really discouraging. It's been over a year since I started KETO and I did great at first, but now the smells and sights of all the goodies other people get to eat is getting to me. Dh and dd1 eat whatever they want and I can smell it and watch but not eat it, too. I'm also really, really tired of having to eat everything cooked at home except for salad. It seems like all I eat is salad, cauliflower, zucchini, cheese, eggs, meat, and cream--the same foods over and over only in different dishes. Maybe it's food boredom? It's just really hard to have to be out with doctor's appointments and work and then find the time and energy for cooking and washing dishes. I just want to run to a restaurant or store and get something pre-made or pre-packaged that won't include cooking and cleaning up a pile of dishes.

Rebekah, I get that. I have dropped the ball myself lately. I am going to let it go this weekend and get back to basics Monday. I think we all need a cheat now and then or we do fall of the ege of the cliff. kwim? I do so well for weeks then crash for a week. I need to find a better way. I mean I avoid sugar but then carbs get me. Pasta or something. Because I do great making broccoli and Shrim instead of having potatoes or whatever I make for MJ. Then a bag of chips calls my name... I also need to realize I CAN get by eating about 1/3 of what i eat. MJ took me to a nice lunch the other day. I got 3 meals out of that steak and potato! I think for me, portion control is even a bigger key than carbs. I do prefer meat and veggies to starches naturally anyway. Except for corn... I could eat corn all day long if it didn't mess with my stomach so much!

Mountainma, I think that's one of the biggest problems with doing something like KETO, or any type of a super restrictive diet, it's very long to keep going long term. I lost a ton of weight a few years ago (and it saved my life by revealing my breast tumor), and I did it through portion control. Regardless of what kind of diet you are doing, if you are eating more calories than you are burning, you are going to gain weight.
I've gained some of it back, and have gotten very serious about getting back on track with eating. My breakfast today was a piece of low calorie bread topped with two tablespoons of hummus and two baked eggs and then I had half a cup of orange juice (313 calories). Lunch will be grilled veg and chicken with a spicy peanut sauce and then 100 grams of grapes (341 calories).
