The state of Texas is in bad shape right now, with lots of power outages and bitter cold. I'm very concerned for Mel and Gina, as I haven't seen them post for a few days. Has anyone heard from either of them?
I'm praying for everyone in Texas, for safety and health during this crisis. When we had a flood, we were without power, water, gas, and phone for over a week. It was not easy, and for us it was during the summer. I'm sure there are many affected by this winter weather who may not have heat or a means to leave home due to the icy roads.
Please, if anyone hears anything, let us know!

I have been in contact with both.
That can be/has been spotty because of power outages, but they are fine.
Mel is at her son's house. Gina's home is heated with wood, so they're fine there. It also sounds as if they stored plenty of water. Last I heard, I know Gina got power back, but I don't know how long she had it.
My sister also lives in TX. She filled me in yesterday. They haven't had water and not sure when they'll get it. It's a long story, but in the end, a cascade of problems from the weather resulted in her entire county not having access to water. She is experiencing power outages, as well. Basically, one day, they have no power all day, but the homes across the street alternate an hour of power/ an hour with no power. The next day, they switch (my sister's side of the street has power every other hour, the neighbors across the street have none). They've been told this will continue through Friday at least.

Just an added thought, to fill out the picture.
My sister has three children (9, 7, and 5). Going without power and heat was one thing, but when they lost water, they thought about going to a hotel. That's when they learned their entire county was impacted, so no power at hotels, either. And, she said the roads are in bad enough shape she believes they cannot drive outside of the area to safely reach a location that would have water.

Praying for all of them! This reminds me so much of our flood. We were trapped in the house without any connection to the outside and roads were washed out or still flooded, so we had to wait for things to clear. As you said, losing power is one thing, but losing water is another whole ball of wax, especially when there are children involved. I remember after several days, I saw a big truck coming into our area with water, and I started to cry at the sight of it, the relief was so great.
Thanks for the update. Praying for God's protection for all of them. You learn what you're really made of when you go through something like this. The trauma is real.

MJ and I are home. Still no central heat, it needs a part and the HVAC guy can't get on the roof, yet. Maybe tomorrow. We are under a boil water order. Please keep my son in prayer, as his area of town still have low/no water pressure. Something is wrong with the pumps that push water from my area uphill to theirs. We can wash clothes but have to boil water for anything else, no showers. UGH but better at home and safe and stinky than needing to crash somewhere else. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.

I'm here and doing fine. Without power we charged our cell phones in the car, sitting in the very warm car with it running (had full tank of gas) but cell service was spotty. We lost power 3:30pm Sunday and got it back Tuesday at 5pm. It went out again that night at 11 but came back on 4 hrs later. We've been without water since Sunday morning. Dh had wrapped the pipes very well and, in fact, had turned off the water leading to the house and had drained the house pipes so no busted pipes under the house. He had installed the shut off valve in case we had a leak under the house (mobile home) we could shut off the water and still have water at the outside faucet. Well, he forgot to disconnect a water hose connected to the faucet so freezing air entered the hose and into the pipe. We managed to get to town before it got too bad on Sunday and bought 7 cases of water. Dh keeps a metal drum of water for the animals along with buckets of water. Monday morning those were frozen with almost 3" of ice so he went around with a sledge hammer. He melted snow (we got almost 2") for the animals. Wednesday he went with a neighbor to get better firewood. The wood we had was damp so wasn't burning as well as it could have. We also have a gas stove and plenty of propane in case we ran out of wood. We still have 2 more nights of a hard freeze. Dh is off of work since he's a truck driver and the roads have been really bad. Our town has had power most of the time but surrounding towns have been without power and many areas without water and as water has come back they are under boil notice.

Gina, at my sons they are melting snow (our town got a minimum of 6 inches with some neighborhoods getting 10) to flush commodes and water their dogs/cats. I have a culligan unit and am boiling that water for dishes and cats/dog water.
