I've heard a lot about shipping delays and shortages, and people talking of getting gifts early this year to ensure they have them in time for Christmas. We don't spend a lot on the holidays, but I do want to make a few things for family and/or friends.
One thing I'm doing differently this year, is making drawstring fabric gift bags instead of using wrapping paper. I found some beautiful ideas online and the bags can be used many times over, even changing out the ribbon or drawstring if desired. These will be more eco-friendly and I plan to make some for general use as well as for Christmas. These can even be made reversible , and thick enough so the recipient can not guess the gift through the wrapping. I'm going to try selling these at the craft fair, too.
My jar lid openers are perfect for sending with a recipe card, dish rag, or crochet-top dish towel. I can also give those in a Christmas card to church friends.
Not sure what to do for dh and the girls this year. That will take more thought. I do want to get dh some books and I already bought a baking stone for dd2.
What are you planning for the holidays? I know it's early yet, but I like to start planning early, especially if there is crafting involved!

WooWee I'm excited now! I went through my flannel fabric today and found some cute fabric to make dd1 some flannel PJ's for Christmas. She's been needing some new ones and it won't cost me anything to make them as I already have the fabric, thread, and elastic.

I rarely gift hand made items any more. I find that they are often not appreciated - I'm not being snarky. My family members generally simply prefer something else. So, I usually send my sister's family things from their Amazon wishlists and I send my dad either gifr certificates for books, for eating out, or I send him a book I think he'd like but may not be aware of. When he downsized his home after my mother's death (twenty years ago), I came across gifts I'd given him that he never opened. That is, he unwrapped them, but then just stored them and never opened the item itself. I decided then to avoid giving him "things" whenever possible. My stepmother did tell me years ago that books and particularly book gift certificates were very good. I have one other close friend who is getting up in age, and she has CLEARLY stated that, while she reads voraciously, she wants no more hard copy books (but she will accept Kindle versions). Her preference is a charitable gift to an organizstion she supports in her honor (for her, that is her local Christian radio station or the organizaiton that trains guide dogs... although she really liked it the years I made a donation to Heifer International in her honor, and bought her an amount to give a Kiva loan.
So, the only trick is shipping items to my sister's family. And, yes, I plan to order those on Thanksgiving weekend so there is nearly a MONTH to arrive.
