Dd2 and her husband are staying with us right now due to them not feeling safe at their other living situation. There is just nothing here, housing wise. They also need to find a place (foster) for their cat as I'm extremely allergic and he can't be here.

Prayers for them to find a place for themselves and for their kitty. Housing is really tough right now.

Praying; do you have an outbuilding the cat can stay in? Maybe in a large cage within a building so he canβt try to get out? Therefore he can still see your daughter & sil.

Thanks for praying. They only were here a couple of weeks and found an ancient singlewide trailer to live in. It's NOT a good place at all--very poor condition and the landlady does not keep up the property. It's ok for now but come winter I worry it will not be safe. Please keep praying they can find something more suitable. Outside interests have come into our area and bought up lots of the apartments and smaller homes to turn into air b and b and it has really reduced housing for families who actually LIVE here and need homes.

Praying for them. I've heard of that happening in different places.

People (individuals as well as companies) buying up houses to rent out as Air BnBs has become a big problem here. Our city actually passed an ordinance limited how short the time a rental can be (never less than 30 days, I believe) because of how big the problems became. People would rent the houses out, have huge, out of control parties (sometimes with gunfire). The owners don't live locally - no clue and I guess the didn't care.
I have such mixed feelings about it. We've really benefitted from AirBnBs on some trips, but you just can't have these kinds of things happening in neighborhoods.
We also have corporations buying up home to use as long-term rentals. We have a brand new housing development opening... and ALL the houses are rental only. And the rents are so high.
Can they look at properties that are available for purchase because of unpaid property taxes? There are some houses around her. Some need a lot of work, but not all. For a few thousand dollars, a person could have a house. Sadly, they are all marketed towards investors. Each listing I've looked at lists what the buyer can expect in rent payments. I wish they'd market them toward young people who need a place to live.

I will be praying that a safer living situation becomes available for them soon.

Wow, not long after I posted an update on this thread, I went over to get dd2 and bring her to our house to spend some time before karate practice. One whole side of the trailer lost power, which is the side that has the refrigerator. The landlady tried to blame them for "having too many things plugged in" but it was only the fridge, tv, and a lamp! She's going to "get around" to putting in a new breaker. In the meantime, I'm praying the place doesn't burn down before the kids can find something else.
