Please pray for Kai, his family, and his health care team.
Kai is a great yujng man who was born with many physical challenges. As a teen (6?7? years ago), he underwent heart surgery to correct some issues he was born with. It took months and his parents were by his side, but he not only recovered, but thrived.
He was leaving work on Friday afternoon when he was hit (broadsided) by a truck on the driver's side. His dad took pictures - the driver's side door was pushed past the steering column. It is a miracle that Kai was saved, but he is in critical condition.
His team at the hospital is amazing. Kai has four brothers (all young adults) who are keeping his prayer warriors updated and, thankfully, supporting their mom and dad.
Because of the many issues Kai was born with, his case is tricky. He has injuries to his lungs, pelvis, and (I think) four broken ribs. There is probably more, but you get the idea.
Please pray for Kai, his mom and dad, his siblings, and his health care team.

Thank you for the prayers! Yesterday, one of his lungs collapsed. They determined it was because of blood in his chest. Because of his other health issues, they wanted to avoid surgery. A non-surgical procedure yesterday was not successful in draining the blood. This morning, they tried one more, different procedure before they would have to have surgery - and it worked! They drained 275 ml of blood and he can once again breathe freely. He’s doing physical therapy (it’s amazing, they actually started PT in less than 24 hours after the collision). He has been cleared to return to a regular diet and be moved out of the trauma ICU once a bed becomes available in a regular hospital room! He has a long way to go, still, but he continues to do so well.. thank you for all the prayers!

Update
Thank you again for the prayers. Kai continues to recover. For a while, there was a little concern about his, well, cooperation. Not that he's being uncooperative, per se. Kai has a certain amount of cognitive impairment. After his lung collapsed and he had the corrective procedure, his care team all emphasized how important MOVING was to get that lung re-inflated. It seems that Kai really just didn't feel like it - he just wanted to rest. You can't blame him! I can only imagine how much pain and discomfort he's in. Well, his mama and doctors had a stern talk with him, and maybe he just needed an extra day because he's been doing much better, far more motivated to get up, move around, do some sort of breathing treatment/exercise (that I don't pretend to understand). There have been some issues with his eating, too. Apparently, hospital food really turns him off (that could have something to do with the months he spent in the hospital when he was younger). Still, he has to eat. It sounds like he's not so much refusing food as just not eating very much. His family is trying to encourage him to eat by bringing him more familiar foods. (I remember when DS3 was hospitalized. Once he was able to eat again, the hospital staff was adamant that he could eat ANYTHING - and I mean anything - HE WANTED as long as he was eating.)
In general, yesterday's report is that Kai is doing really well... except that lung just hasn't fullly recovered yet. In fact, in all other areas, the doctors say that he is ready to be moved to a "rehab-hospital" but they need to get that lung back to functioning correctly.
Again, thank you for your previous prayers, and if you could pray for continued good improvement and full recovery for that lunch, I know Kai and his family would be deeplly appreciative.

Thank you all for your prayers. I'm sorry to be so late with an update... but it's all good news.
Last week, Kai was (finally!) transferred to the rehab hospital. It seems as if he hit that tipping point where things have just been continuing to improve. Last report from his family, we don't know when he'll come home, but he is well on the way.
Thank you again.

AMAZING NEWS!!!!
Kai went home yesterday afternoon!
He has been making great progress. More recently, they had been hoping to have him home by Friday, but yesterday, the therapists said he'd made so much progress, he could "graduate." They said he doesn't even need any more physicaly therapy (which is also amazing!). They have cautioned that he should go slow, but the best exercise for him right now is walking. They also reminded him that it will take weeks before his body fully recovers. He was home in time for dinner - his family was thrilled!
Ladies, thank you so much for the prayers!
