Canning supplies have been in very short supply here. Yesterday, I ran to Save a Lot to pick up a couple of items and just happened to discover a whole end cap of canning jars and lids. They must have just put them out! I picked up a few lids. They were almost $3 for a box of 12, but I was happy to find them at any price.
When I got home, I noticed something a little disturbing. These were the Ball brand lids, name brand. On the box was printed, "seals up to 18 months." I've never seen that before, and I've certainly had jars stay sealed much longer than that. It makes me wonder if something is different in the construction materials or if they are trying to avoid lawsuits or something. I thought it very odd.

I’d say they are trying to avoid lawsuits. Now that I think about it I’m surprised they haven’t done that before now. I can’t see them changing the construction of the lids to be more inferior than before.
