I want to update.
Shane (and his mama) is home. It was really hard for them at first. She said dealing with him in their home environment really made his losses of abilities (speaking, walking) so much more real.
Since that time, it seems as if the family is finding their new normal. They've visited extended family (again, dealing with others realizing and dealing with the dramatic difference in Shane, but enjoying time together). The family even managed 😬 to catch COVID. It meant several visits to the hospital for Shane's sake (but no overnights, thankfully).
On a bright note, his mom shared that when they carried him upstairs to his bedroom, his face broke out in a BIG smile. Not just glad to be home, but in his own space... and a sure sign he remembered and knew where he was.
