Ladies, I've updated the request for Kai. This situation I'm sharing now has been on my heart, for oh, so many reasons.
Shane's mom and I became Facebook friends I-don't-know-when. Like many of us here, she and I have never met in person. I wouldn't even say we're particularly close, but you know how it is when you share your daily experiences as a mom. You recognize someone who's experiencing the same passages of life.
Last year, Shane and his family went down a new path, one most of us don't have to follow. Very rapridly (winter or early spring, '21) he was diagnosed with leukemia. Unfortuantely, the treatment for the leukemia resulted in a brain injury. Shane has been in the hospital since August (yes, last August). MOST of that time, his mom has been at his side. His dad is taking care of their other three children at home. There has been the occasion where mom and dad will switch off, but mom has been there most of the time.
A few weeks ago, there was a HUGE step forward for Shane where he was moved to a rehabilitation facility. My understanding is that he remained non-verbal, but was making progress.
Last Thursday, neither the medical staff nor his mom could keep Shane awake. They could rouse him, but he would immediately go back to sleep. He was rushed to the hospital. He had diagnostic tests (a couple of MRIs and a CT). They've been watching him - at one point, he woke up and was happy. But things took a difficult turn. He was rushed to brain surgery yesterday. The surgery went well, but there were problems when he was in the recovery room. He's currently on a ventilator.
Please, please, please pray for Shane and for his mama, Jenn. If you would like, you can follow her updates at www.facebook.com/Super-Shane-StrongA-fight-against-leukemia-and-a-severe-brain-injury-101896185416728/. When things are difficult, she doesn't always update right away, but she sees the comments and my hope is that she feels the support of the prayers of others.
Please pray for Shane's dad, brothers, and sister, too.
