Ladies, pricecheck, pricecheck, pricecheck.
There is a local discount store we have relied on in the past. It's part of a big chain of department stores, but it stocks things that they are discontiuing or have left over at the end of the season. We go there when the boys need shoes because we have been able to get them good shoes that will last for a reasonable price. DH has, on occasion, found some work clothes there (he has to wear suit and tie when he's in the office).
I have been wearing Birkenstock shoes for years, and lately, basically live in them because they prevent pain in my feet and joints. And, for years, I've bought on clearance or sales, and usually online. Last week, a friend told me this store had a whole display, so DH and I stopped in this weekend.
Every pair of Birkenstocks was full list price. I wouldn't have known that if I wasn't checking and knew the various price points for various styles. In addition, I'd have to pay sales tax (which is 10% here).
But what really caught my attention were a pair of Dansko clogs. These are also really good shoes, and I need new clogs, and these were not in a special display, but clearly in with the overstock shoes. They were "officially" discounted, BUT, when I checked online, the "discount" price was higher than the list price on Dansko's website (even before sales tax).
