Hi all it's been awhile!
Anyone have a good recipe/method for a sourdough starter? I bought a starter packet but it isn't doing so well. I would actually prefer to start one from scratch
Thanks, Maddy

When I was in California, I made wonderful sourdough breads. (Actually had folks wanting to buy them) Here in TX... nope can't keep a starter going for anything! It is just to dry here I have been told.

I keep mine in the fridge and have had no trouble. I got my starter as a package deal from King Arthur Flour along with a ceramic crock when I moved here four years ago, and it is doing well. even if I occasionally forget to feed it each week, it always comes back.

That's interesting to hear, Mel. I haven't done much with sourdough, but in Texas I was able to culture yogurt, kefir, kombucha, and even pickles. In 8 years now, and living in several homes, I haven't had success in Alabama. I figured it was whatever natural yeasts (or whatever) are in the air.
