First: - I bought a LOT of yarn (on steep discount) to use for projects for church.
Then, our church received a TON of donations of two specific types: - Lots and lots and LOTS of yarn from people's stashes they wanted to get out of their houses. I mean, a lot. SO MUCH yarn was donated that a retired couple (husband and wife) have been spending hours at church organizing and sorting through. The yarn is everything from baby yarn, sport weight, worsted, and bulky. (There is no thread, and they passed all the super buly - size 7 - along to youth for crafting)
- Donations from other churches of afghans - bed size, lap size, and baby size. For this reason, the woman who coordinates distribution has been requesting small items.
Can you help me brain storm a list of projects that are... - "small" items
- could be made out of a variety of yarn sizes
- Bonus: suggestions for items appreciated/used by men. The lady who is coordinating said they are not getting many items she feels will be useful/appreciated by men.
Suggestions so far (from the coordinator): I also thought (maybe): - fingerless gloves
- slippers
- pocket crosses
What else?

I’m sure you’ve thought of dishcloths and dish towels. Coasters, ear warmer headbands (not sure the exact name).

For the more seasoned crocheters, stuffed animals are perfect for using up bits of different colored scraps. When my youngest was in high school, she made a basket with a hen and several eggs and a few chicks--all crocheted without a pattern. They were so cute! The lighter sport weight yarn is perfect for smaller baby items like booties. Also, a fun, quick project to crochet is doll clothes. There are free patterns on Pinterest for all sizes from Barbie dolls to the 18" dolls.
For kids, with school starting, leg warmers might be useful. Headbands for men may be good, too. Hats and scarves are perfect for beginner skill levels and don't take too long to complete.
Have you seen the crochet Christmas garlands you can put on Christmas trees like tinsel? I've seen some at craft fairs and they are not difficult to make.
