I’ve been interested in genealogy a bit here and there for years. My older daughter is really into it and has found some really cool info. I joined a group (free) recently that is a huge help. If you’re interested it’s Family search.org Hope some of you will want to start ! I’d be glad to help with my limited knowledge. I have found some really interesting family ties. Hugs and God bless, Helen(grammea)

I’m going to check it out. I have a great aunt on my mother’s side that has researched that side of the family to over a hundred years ago. But I know hardly anything about my dad’s side of the family.

We researched part of my family back to the Revolutionary War and I was able to join the DAR. I'm working on two other sections of the family. Did learn some interesting tidbits about my great grandparents.
I do have an ancestry dot comm subscription, so if anyone gets stuck, I can look it up on there.

That is so neat, Michelle! I've researched some on my mom's side of the family and found out we're kin to Annie Oakley and I can trace that side of the family back to Jamestown. It's so interesting!

I have not had time lately, but this winter I really want to research more into our geneaology. Are there any privacy concerns in using online sites? Should I start at the library?

I haven't worried about privacy, especially since they are pulling from public records.

My son’s ex-wife has done some exploring on Ancestry.com and found that ds’s dad’s family (German immigrants) is from the town we’re living in. I had bought a used book from a estate sale with the Vogelpohl name written in it so I wondered if they were related to his family. What makes it very interesting is that my dh is family if also from here, in fact we are living on family property. A small town in the huge state of Texas and both my dh’s ancestors and my ex-dh’s ancestors are both from here.

I qualify for DAR, but I'm not sure I could be very active in it. I love poking around on Ancestry. It has really helped me build my tree out and even helped connect my husband to a second cousin on his side. My great-great aunt kept very meticulous records on my dad's side of the family and I am so glad she did. She put together a family history book that has been copied and passed down to all who have wanted it. She included stories about family and poems she wrote. It is an absolute treasure to me and I really need to write down some things for my own little immediate family.
