You know, with the era of Pinterest and cooking blogs, etc., I really got away from using tried and true cookbooks. I've tried many recipes from websites, but what I've come to learn here recently is that most of these recipes are just huge flops for me. The best things I've cooked lately have come from the Betty Crocker or Campbell's websites, which I consider "tried and true" for the most part. I just recently pulled out our church cookbook to start using again. I know what most of these dishes should taste like from sampling them from Fifth Sunday dinners at church, so I'm going back to the "old school" ways of cooking. Anyone else have this issue with recipes online? The pictures of the finished product always look so amazing, but the taste and wow factor just isn't there for me.

Meeee.
I fell into that 'Oooo, pretttyyy! EZ!' And I tried a bunch. They don't work. Back to Betty Crocker, and I do have a ton of cookbooks. If I want inspiration, I'll look there.

I find that there a few websites that I can count on to not be flops. I also know that I'm not good at following recipes, so I use most ones that I find as jumping off points.
If you want a really good cookbook, the Homestead Blessing one is really good. I think that it is still available.

I’m also going to check that out. I much rather follow a cookbook than a website. A couple of times I’ve found a recipe on Allrecipe.com but even if it turns out well I forget to bookmark it or write it down. At least with a cookbook I can jot down on the recipe what adjustments I’ve made.

So far I've not had much trouble with website recipes, but I have a (bad?) habit of looking at the recipe, then adjusting it and doctoring it up to what I think would be good. So the recipe is really just a "suggestion" for me. Yeah, I'm that kind of a cook! LOL!
