I've been saving toilet paper tubes to make Christmas crackers. I found some quality, but discounted candy, and plan to put that in the tubes and wrap the crackers in scrap Christmas fabric or wrapping paper. The candy is my only expense as I already have the other items needed.
It's something new, but won't cost a lot, and I was thinking to pass them out a day or two before Christmas, just to stretch out the holiday a little.
I plan to make a few "extra" in case of any friends happen to visit, etc.
What do you all think? Any ideas? Any other tiny things I could put inside the crackers? Would it be better to use fabric or the paper for wrapping? I have tons of ribbon and fabric and paper.

Some loose change mixed in with the candy? Is the paper heavy like wrapping paper? If so that should be fine. Wrapping tissue would be too thin. Fabric or paper would be fine.

OOOH! I never thought of loose change! Great idea! The paper is gift wrap. The fabric is cotton Christmas print that didn't cost me anything as it was scraps given to me by a quilter friend.

These sound so fun! I've seen them online. I need to save this idea for next year!

So far the Christmas crackers have been a great hit. I gave each of the family one this morning to hold them over before we eat dinner and open gifts. I put candy, jokes, and a small challenge in each cracker. These were made of toilet paper tubes and wrapped with scraps of wrapping paper and some ribbon. As a seamstress/crafter I have TONS of ribbon and just some of that. My (adult) kids LOVED having a small treat to eat and they liked acting out the little challenges. One challenge was to act out "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" and another challenge was to imitate a Wild West Santa. I'm happy something so simple was so enjoyed!
I have more crackers to hand out at dinner and these will have money and other little goodies as well as the candy.
