DH & I went out on one evening recently (unusual for us) and did some birthday and Christmas gift shopping for our boys. We went to a department store than I think DH kinda likes. Sometimes I get frustrated in there (it's one of those places where you have to jump through hoops/use their app to get good prices, and their internet signal is AWFUL). Anyway, as we walked around, I took note (and showed DH) so many overpriced (way overpriced) items, but practically EVERYthing was "on sale." The sale price was what I thought was actually reasonable. I figured, well, times are difficult, prices are all going up. They're doing what they have to in order to make it seems like they're at least trying to offer a deal.
Anyway, we picked up some earbuds we knew the younger boys would use and like ($8 per pair on sale), and we saw these cute boxes of socks. Three pair of sock in each box, and the socks and the boxes themselves were all Christmas themed. They were stacked on yet another sales display. We found three different boxes and took them to the checkout.
The guy rang up the items, and I noticed (but didn't think about it) that he kept rescanning the sales codes. Eventually, the total rang up:
$179 and change.
I thought it was a mistake at first, left over from the previous person in line. NOPE.
Those socks came out to $50 per box. FIFTY DOLLARS for THREE pair of socks. Socks they probably won't even wear unless it's Christmas.
When I questioned the total, the cashier explained that he'd tried scanning them multiple times, but they just weren't being discounted. They were for sale at full price (but not on sale).
So, yeah, we had him remove the socks from our purchase.
I don't even care about being displayed wrong. WHO IS PAYING $50 FOR THREE PAIR OF SOCKS?
Anyway, please, please pay attention to things you are picking up. And, while we've made some nice purchases there in the past (after getting past the markdowns/coupons/app codes), this kind of changed my attitude about this particular chain.
