Situation:
The timer feature on our dryer (five years old) has stopped working. The moisture sensor never worked particularly well, so we have always relied on the timer feature. Now that the timer isn't working, the dryer will just keep running (as in, never stop) unless we stop it.
DH looked up how to make the repair, but when he went to order the replacement part... It was $400. For the timer.
I think he dropped it right there because he was so mad that a part would cost so much, to be honest.
For now, stopping the dryer is working, but it makes me very nervous. I have forgotten myself once or twice (put something in the dryer, get distracted and don't remember to come back for a long time). While that is expensive in terms of electricity, I'm actually worried about it overheating. And EVERYONE here uses the dryer (everyone does laundry).
I don't want to buy a used dryer. I can actually buy a basic dryer - no bells and whistles - for $500, so why spend $400 on a part.
Thoughts about places to buy a timer? Do you know of any outlets?

Flylady used to sell a great little timer. I assume she still does. It has a magnet on the back that will stick to your fridge or dryer. If it were me, I'd get something like that--just a small kitchen timer--and make sure to set it for each load of laundry. Of course, that means you'd need to be home to hear it and get the clothes out.
Also, check with any used appliance places in your area. Maybe they have one that still works that could be installed on your machine? I don't know, but it's probably worth checking.

There is a place called Parts & More in Brenham (a town near us) that has parts for all kinds of appliances and will order parts. Maybe there’s a place near you that is similar.
