Dh and I had to travel out of town this week to judge fine arts for the state's Christian schools. On the way home, we stopped at an ALDI in another town in a more affluent area of our state. It was close to the store's closing time and we knew we could not get to our "regular" ALDI store in time.
When we were finished shopping, I put the buggy back in the buggy corral and was SHOCKED to see at least 5 buggies just there on the sidewalk, near the corral but not attached. I attached mine and got my quarter back, then attached another and took that quarter as well. In the meanwhile, a couple more shoppers came by and simply left their carts and stared at me like I was a freak for getting my quarter back! I felt uncomfortable and walked away, but everything in me wanted to tidy up the area and collect the rest of those quarters!
I was shocked at the attitude, like a lowly twenty-five cents wasn't worth anything! Our store is in a lower income area and you NEVER see this.

To be honest, I'm not surprised. I'll have to look next time I'm near one of our Aldi's as I do live in an affluent area.
Though I would be like you and putting them all away to get the quarters.

If it's busy, people sometimes wait for your cart, and hand you the quarter. We once showed an out-of-towner how to work it when she couldn't figure out how to get a cart.
