I've posted in the do's how we (alomst every Saturday) go to two grocery stores. I've always put this down to three issues: - Some things that DH likes we can only get at Store #2.
- Some other things we get are not available at store #2 so we get them at store #1
- Store #1 has regular sales that I try to take avantage of. This means a lot of pantry storage, but if we stick with sales prices, I always figured it was worth it.
Although store #1 has a much moe limited selection, the prices are generally lower - even if just a little bit - so we try to get as many things we need from there that we can. But, this week, because DH is on a special short-term diet, we didn't really need to go to store #2. We decided to just pick up everything at store #1.
OH.MY.GOOD.NESS
We spent a full 63% MORE. (Yes, I did the math!) When you're filling a cart with enough perishables for a household of 5, $1 extra on this and that adds up! We didn't even get things we normally get - DH usually likes to get doughnuts or something for the boys. We didn't this week. DH did get a package of steaks which is NOT something we get normally, but that did not come close to accounting for how much extra we spent.
I will no longer feel silly at all about going to two stores ech week.

We found out the same! We hit up ALDI for most items, especially gluten-free, but some things we have to get at a more expensive, local store.
