So I went on a road trip with a friend to check out Aldi's for the first time. What a disappointment after having everyone tell me how great it is for years. No name brands, and shopping lists are useless, they have what they have. So an hour trip to have to load our groceries bagless. But it was a nice bonding time with my friend who took me, and after we got back, we split a box of Colorado peaches, the best I have had in years. Juice running down my chin! Cobbler is in the near future. The peaches did NOT come from Aldi's, BTW.

Merrileem, it’s been awhile since I’ve been to Aldi’s. I noticed the one I go to is starting to carry a few name brands but they aren’t as cheap as the store brands. To keep their prices so low they have to carry mostly store brands and you have the provide your own bags unless you spend a few pennies for a brown paper bag.
We attended a memorial service for our friend at our church. Helped usher and greet. We went for Chinese buffet afterwards. We got to the church at 10 and didn’t leave until 2 so we were hungry. I’m finished with the quilt I did for dh’s aunt’s niece. Tuesday I’ll start another one. This evening dh and I will take a walk to the back fence. Dinner will be fajitas.

I did a cooking marathon that has lasted most of the day. Since this involved the oven, I wanted to do it all today as the rest of the week the temperatures will be in the 90's here and having the oven on would be unbearable.
I made sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits for dd's breakfasts this week, pot pie for (some of) his lunches, an eggplant lasagna for me and dd1, baked acorn squash for dd1, and some hamburger patties for me. I also made individual salads to have with my burgers this week for KETO. It's a lot of work, and cooking from scratch makes a lot of dirty dishes, but I can watch church and sit and prep stuff, stand a while to cook or wash dishes, then sit and watch some more as the computer is in the kitchen.
Our church had an outing and dd1 was able to go for a while and ride horseback. It's been several years since she was able to ride. She had to leave after an hour due to passing out and seizures, etc., but we are SO HAPPY she lasted that long and was able to finally get out and do something fun. It's hard for a young person her age having to deal with a chronic illness, especially as her friends have grown up and one by one forgotten her as they go to college, get married, and start families. Her BFF got married this weekend in another state, and although dd1 is happy for her, it's just one more friend who isn't in her life anymore. The good thing is, a girl she knew from elementary school also went on the outing, and she was able to visit with her. It did them both good!

Mountainma, nice on the cooking marathon.
Merrilee, for me, Aldi's is a LOT like Trader Joe's (both owned by the same company). At TJ's, almost everything is store brand. It took us a while to get the hang of it, but we find the quality is worth it. TJ's doesn't have as low prices as Aldi's, but they set the bar for the other stores around us. Tj's is the lowest price (without a long drive) for many items here. To be honest, I wouldn't have bothered with it if we hadn't been stuck when we lived in LA for a place with decent quality meat. TJ's ended up being the only grocery store where we could afford meat that we found edible, and over time, we tried enough other products that we, well, converted I guess. Most of the reason we go every weekend now is because there are a few Trader Joe brand products that are the only ones (anywhere) that DH wants to eat. It doesn't matter that the price is lower.
We got home today from camp, unpacked, I did some immediate computer work (parents emailing me over the weekend about issues with their class schedules), and DH and I went out for groceries. We spent more than I like, mainly because I hadn't menu planned (other than some quick figuring in the car on my phone during the drive back). It's okay - the extras we bought will stretch or be used more than once. We settled on pizza for dinner (home made). I think we're tired. DH and I did a lot of walking - not on the trails, but on the paved and gravel roads in camp. Yesterday I walked over 18,000 steps.
Anyway, the groceries are put away, I have to send an email, then I'm just relaxing for the evening.

We went to church then out for lunch. Took a nap when I got home and now just watching tv. Too hot to feel anything outside. Once again t cools down (around 8pm) I’ll water the peach tree and climb a ladder to pick rest of the loofah gourds. I quit watering them about two weeks ago. I was tired of remembering to water it and have so many gourds.
