Hi everyone! I know I've not been here in a LONG time so I figured I'd hop in and give an update on us. I've been working for a school for the last 2.5 years as a reception aide. I've been the person to buzz people into the building, check their ID, give them a pass and help them with most needs that they have. It has been a great job and I've enjoyed it a lot but I sent in my letter of resignation yesterday because it is time to "retire". The plan has been for our youngest Joanna to go off to college and Bob and I would be on the boat to take it south to Florida but with Covid and Joanna likely not being on campus for school, we are probably going to have to modify that plan. We will see what we can do but at least now I have the freedom to leave for a few weeks to move the boat and then come home without having to worry about school. And now updates on the rest of the family:
Hubby Bob - Is no longer a full time pastor after our main church shut down our campus. We ended up moving our people and resources to another church that we kind of merged with as well as a third church so that has been interesting. Of course now with Covid, we've not met but we will begin meeting again in person next week but we personally won't be there because of health risks for Bob and my daughter Lauren. But while Bob isn't a full time pastor now, he's still doing volunteer work with the new church as well as being a resource in the community for funerals, counseling and things like that. He's back to doing some software development on an electric car but right now that is on hold as well since parts have been hard to come by with the pandemic. He's also been busy with managing the estate we inherited when his mom died. His goal is for us to take what we got and make it big enough for us to leave each of our kids the same amount each when we pass away. So he's learning about finances and stocks and things like that! It is kind of interesting...for him. LOL.
Lauren (30) is getting married! She met a guy online and he lives in upstate NY (we are downstate) so she will be moving about 4.5 hours away from us. Of course with the pandemic, her wedding plans have changed significantly from having a barn wedding and reception with the rustic and romantic and 150+ people to a ceremony with an unknown number of people and cake and punch at the church. They decided to skip a reception and instead take the money so Lauren can get her masters degree for teaching special ed. The wedding will be August 29th so that she can be settled upstate when/if school starts.
Nicole (28) is married now for 2 years and she is an audiologist. She is doing great and is back to work after being furloughed for the last few months. She and Jeremy are now debt free and are moving from their small basement apartment to an apartment complex while they save up for a down payment on a house. Jeremy is the operator (head manager) at a local Chick-Fil-A and the two of them are doing quite well financially as well as relationally. They are a great couple!
Rob (19) is floundering a little bit but part of that is being a 19 year old boy who is super social and a kid who had a bad concussion a year and a half ago. He had to drop out of school because of the concussion affecting his memory and he's taken some classes since but needs to figure out what he wants to do in life. He isn't working right now because the car dealership he worked at is still closed and so he just hangs out with friends all the time - fortunately the same group and they are all pretty careful but still. He needs a job and he needs to get himself back to school full time with a purpose! But he's a good kid and I love him. He's fun to be around!
Joanna (17) has graduated from high school (well, the official graduation is in July if they are able to accomplish putting one on) and she will be heading to the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY City in the fall for fashion design. She's super talented and creative and I really hope she can get on campus! Fortunately we are about an hour away by train so she could always commute but I'd love for her to experience being away from home if she can.
So that is about all that is going on with us! Life is good, my family is healthy and God is still amazing. We are blessed and things are crazy with this pandemic but since I'm a homebody, it's been good for me. . I hope all is well with all of you! I miss you all!
