I mentioned that I used a "recipe" for this last night. I came to several conclusions: - Even though this included boxed mac n cheese, I don't think it was macaroni and cheese AT ALL by the time it was done.
- It was nothing like tuna noodle casserole
- It was good. Just... it was it's own thing
- My kids liked it, but I actually think they like plain ol' mac n cheese better (homemade OR boxed)
So, here it is: Put the macaroni on to boil in salted water according to the directions (time) on the box. In a big bowl, whisk together: - the cheese powder packet
- a "generous handful" of parmesan (I used about 1/2 cup)
- 1/2 or 1 (according to taste) minced raw garlic
- 1/4 cup cream
- 2 T butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 can of tuna packed in oil, drained (I would NOT substitute tuna in water in this dish)
When the noodles are cooked, dip them out with a slotted spoon and add them to the sauce bowl. It's okay if some water drips into your sauce bowl. The recipe actually accounts for that. Once you've got all the noodles in the sauce bowl, stir until they're coated. After this, I let it set for about five minutes and the sauce set up nicely. So... this is just, well, a great tasting pasta dish that neither looks like nor tastes ANYthing like mac n cheese. It didn't taste like tuna noodle casselore, and, in spite of all the parmesan, it didn't taste like alfredo, either.
