For me as an adult, and for our family, Easter has always been a church focused holiday. We never had the Easter Bunny come to our house. There was a year we dyed eggs just so the boys could have that experience, and, on occasion, I have made Italian Easter bread (a sort of sweet, anise flavored enriched bread, much like brioche or a less-sweet panetone). My mother and grandmother decorated theirs with colored eggs (sometimes), but always a light white drizzle glaze and sprinkles (the round ones, not jimmies).
Which leads me to my question. DH and I were talking about how our families growing up made Easter a BIG holiday. My mother always worked (she was a nurse), but we had a big holiday meal with foods she traditionally prepared and/or bought. DH said it was the same with his family, but involved extended family as well.
Do you have specific Easter celebrations with your family, that aren't necessarily church-community-centered? Do you have a traditional holiday meal, whether it's your family's tradition or more broadly traditional?

Growing up we hunted Easter eggs and went to church. When my kids were little they hunted eggs but as they grew up I was a single parent and worked as a nurses assistant in hospitals do I always worked the holidays. There was no particular holiday foods. It’s been that way ever since. Sometimes I’ll make a ham. Mostly the holiday revolves around church.

Growing up, we had egg hunts (real dyed eggs) and Easter baskets. We got together with family, usually traveling to another state for the weekend.
The past few years, we have traveled after church (one hour) to my parents for a late lunch; hubby is a pastor. This year is different; my parents are traveling to another state to meet with Dad's side of the family; so hubby and I will come home after a long morning (3 services) at church and relax.
