Rebekah, since the baby is a healthy I can't understand why he has to be fed every 3 hrs. That is probably just his personal opinion. As far as sleep positions, I would think that, after feeding especially, laying them on their back would cause them to inhale, or choke, on milk if they spit up.
Yesterday I went to the ER thinking my potassium was low and I was feeling really bad with headache, sore throat, glands hurting. The nurse said they haven't seen much flu but have seen a lot of covid. My covid came back negative. I have some sort of upper respiratory infection. My potassium was within normal limits. I wish I could just see my primary doctor to have level tested but it's a send out test so it'd take 2-3 days for the result.

Sandra, <snip> Do you tend to lose students over the summer and pick up more during the school year? <snip> This afternoon I'll head to dd's to help her. She is in a lot of pain from the C section. She's also tired from getting no sleep while in the hospital. The doctor told her to wake the baby every 3 hours to feed him. So far that has produced bad results with a crying baby who wants to sleep and frustrated parents who can't seem to feed him. This really surprised me because the doctor told us (years ago) to let our babies sleep all night if they wanted to, and just feed them when they wake up. I remember dd2 slept all night long when we first brought her home! It seems much of the advice we were given 20 years ago is the opposite now. We were told to sleep babies on their sides, now they must sleep on their back. Sort of. Here is how I handle it: If students are around (and I am) I teach. I usually take a week off each summer. And I plan a big project for each summer to prepare that I handle during the times freed up by students out of town. Last year, I plotted out a year's worth of piano classes. This year, it's been more about marketing - working out new approaches, determining what I want to do and do NOT want to do... So, our oldest is 21, and I got some of the same adavice as you and some different. With DS1, they wanted me to wake him every TWO hours to feed him. I think that was because I was breastfeeding (no bottles for him) and they wanted to make sure he got off to a good start. But... he did a lot of cluster feeding during those first few days. I think it was the second night, he'd fed for two hours straight and had JUST dropped off back to sleep... and in comes the nurse and tells me to wake him and feed him. I said, "Well, he only just went back to sleep." She told me to wake him anyway! (I really think a lot of doctors/nurses assume patients lie or don't know what they're talking about). I then informed her in no uncertain terms that he had nursed constantly since I'd woken him two hours earlier, had only just dropped off, and I was not waking him up again.
Gina, I was also told to have the boys sleep on their backs. I ended up rigging bath towels, rolled tight, to make a sort of frame that supported them front and back to have them sleep on their sides. Sorry you're dealing with this. Is it worth a call to the PCP to see if they want to see you? In news from our place, DS1 completed ALL work to be fully qualified as a paramedic. He texted me a picture of his patch around 11 AM yesterday. That means he completed the classwork and finals and the practical skills test. He still has to take some sort of national test. He's taken two of those already (EMT-B and EMT-A) and passed both on the first try, so I think he's in good shape. Once he has those final results, he just sends them to the state and he's official. It's so different from when I was in school. We'd go to a testing center, use the good old #2 pencils, and wait for our results to be mailed weeks later. DS takes it on a computer and has his results same day - sometimes before he even leaves the computer. DH and I wanted to celebrate, but DS1 said he wants to wait until he has the full licensing, so we'll celebrate sometime later this month. I know he's antsy to move into paramedic work. His current job has been good for him for this past semester because it's only transporting stable patients. That was perfect while he was having to do all the hours of classes, studying, and training shifts, but he's ready to put his new skills and knowledge to work.

Sandra, I'm feeling pretty good today. Yesterday I felt well. Had a great time at the waterpark. In all the times we've gone there (about 8 times over past few years) we have never seen any arguments or unruly behavior. Yesterday, though, we were getting in the lazy river and the lifeguard was telling a lady she could not have her cup of whatever on the river. She started cussing him out, loudly, then walked past me & Eli (he was helping me get on an inner tube lol), tossed her inner tube into the air. The hard plastic handle hit me in the head! Lifeguard asked me if I was okay, I said yes, but he went after her anyway.
I've always wished I was an EMT or paramedic but my math & biology skills were terrible. Has he considered being a lifeflight paramedic? That would be really interesting.

Gina, I'm glad you are feeling better. I would have been furious had something hit me on the head like that!

Gina, that's awful getting hit in the head. I'm glad the lifeguard didn't let it go with her.
I asked DS1 about lifeflight and he was adamant that he was NOT interested in that. He's a huge research hound, so I'm sure he had strong reasons. Right now, he's really focused on getting hired by the fire department - not ours, but the big one in the region. It sounds like a really good option... but we'll see. He's just starting out, and another opportunity may come up that appeals to him.
Ironically, it sounds as if the math was not hard at all for him - but for his senior year of highschool he did a semester of paramedical math. I bought some old college texts and he worked through all of the assignments and exercises in them. That may have given him a strong foundation.

This was a long day. A good one, but long.
First, we just had church. Then we went out to lunch with the boys for our anniversary. We tried a new restaurant. It wasn't horrible, but it certainly did not live up to its hype. Then we came home and puttered until dinner. DH and DS3 have been watching the Olympics off and on.

It's been a long day here also. First church (both 9am & 11am) then met up with ds & kids for lunch. They leave early tomorrow. It took us about 1 hrs 15 minutes to get there from our church. Made a pit stop on the way at Walmart for a few things. Spent almost two hours visiting. When we got home I scooped litter boxes and fed kittens. Now resting. Dh is on the tractor.

Just jumping in to say...
The (dirty) dishes problem continued to rage out of control. I went to order the dishes I'd talked about but couldn't find them. But instead, I found a set with all different colors (check) with enough for the family (check), on sale (check), and I was able to use a coupon. Bingo. I placed the order.
And they washed the dishes.
It's okay. I'm not returning the dishes. This is not the first time I've stated I would do this. Maybe there was a tone in my voice this time. But I'll put those dishes in the closet in case (ha) this problem happens again.

Good morning ladies!!!
Sandra, congrats to DS1 and that is funny about the dishes. Rebekah, congrats on the new grandbaby. Gina, glad that you are feeling better.
I am absolutely knackered. I am getting way to old to be up late networking and then up early for sessions, but the conference was very good. Now I am focused on getting caught up.

I tried to make a to-do post, but I really can't.
Oh, I have a list of to-dos, but we have some sort of water issue in the basement - it's under the flooring. At first, we weren't happy but we (thought we) knew what was happening and how to address it. It won't be a small task - we need to pull up flooring, replace a bunch, etc. But we have had this situation before (different water source), and thought we knew what to do. However, this morning we discovered MORE water. DH is wokring on figuring out the why so we can (actually) stop it... but it means that I don't really know how the day is going to unfold anymore.

Oh Sandra! Water damage is such a pain! Hope you get it figured out and fixed quickly.
Today is the first day I've been able to relax a bit for almost 2 weeks. I really *want* to nap, but there's too much work to do first. With school starting, everyone decided they need alterations all at the same time, and since the baby's birth, I've not had time to sew. Today, it must happen. Then I have to finish laundry and cook several meals for this coming week.
Yesterday when I went grocery shopping, I was just aghast at the prices. The no sugar added catsup is usually around $3-4 a bottle. Yesterday, it was $7! So, no catsup for me. It seemed everywhere I looked, the prices had doubled since my last visit. Usually we go to ALDI, but this store is closer and I HAD to use a scooter after such a busy week. (My swelling is so bad I can hardly walk, and ALDI does not provide scooters.)
On a happier note, every year a mama deer has a baby or two born in our backyard. We had not seen this year's baby (only heard it cry a couple of times) and figured maybe the baby didn't make it. Yesterday, the mama had him out grazing in the yard. It was a little thing, but it still made my heart glad to see it.

I don't know if I've ever shared this, but DH loves grocery shopping. He wouldn't use those words, but trust me, they're applicable. When we were dating - even before we got serious - one of the things we did together was our grocery shopping. I mean, he did his, I did mine, but we would go to various stores together. (He also loves Christmas shopping, but that's another post.) Personally, I would happily hand him a list and let him get everything, but I think he also loves company and would be hurt. (He doesn't cook by the way; he basically shops for what I think the family needs and then gets his few things that only he eats - a special flavor of cereal, certain gluten free items.)
I shared all that, Mountainma, because it has been good to have another person along who also sees the crazy increase in prices. Some of us here like Zevia: We only have one store here that sells the 12 can boxes. We've watched the price go from 9.99 per box (when not on sale) up to 11.99 currently. That's 20%! We only buy it when it's on sale, but we've also recognized that pretty much every time it goes on sale.. the full price is even higher when the sale is over. The other stores sell it, but it costs more per can and the only sell 6 packs or 8-count boxes. Costco had it for a month or two, but they couldn't keep it in stock and it hasn't been back.
The water issue finally got sorted yesterday. It was like a detective story. Long story short, it was the pressure regulator for the house. DH had to drive a couple of places to find one, but he did, brought it home, and installed in. Problem solved... well, at least the hot water heater venting water stopped. We pulled up the worst effected flooring. DH used the wet/dry vac. I took the flooring outside and washed it down with the hose. It's still good - it's a type of vinyl where you can clean it, dry it out, and in theory re-lay it (We replaced flooring in that spot previously for an unrelated water issue.). BUT... this time the water made it farther and we need to replace sections of carpet (it's very icky). DH says we can't match the flooring so we'll need to get new and we'll just redo ALL of the remaining basement. I still washed it in the hope that we can pass it along to some one who can use it.
I will need to call the city tomorrow about the carpet we'll pull out. We have a truck that comes through monthly that picks up big items (junk), but they exclude "construction" materials. They refused to take our neighbor's old dog house because it was made from "construction" materials (think Snoopy's dog house, not the modern plastic igloo style). I hope they'll take it, but if they won't, I will probably have to get someone to haul it away.
DH is planning on taking time off to work on pulling out carpet and laying flooring; I think we're at a standstill until he starts that. I just hope he tells me a day or two in advance!

The prices are getting crazy on groceries, except for pork of all things. Our local grocery store constantly has it on sale at ridiculously low prices and you better believe that we stock up on it I buy a lot of our grains in more bulk sizes, which helps. As does learning how to season rice myself back when I first found PH and HH. We made the switch from Keurig to fresh ground coffee in part due to the price. I can usually find beans for decent prices online, or I buy them as "souvenirs" when we travel. Rebekah, that is so sweet about the deer. Sandra, glad that you were able to get the leak fixed.

Good morning ladies. I don't post much, my life is normally pretty boring lol. This last month has been a bit hard for me though. We had to put our dog down, she was our furbaby. I feel I am grieving for her as much as for a human.
This is my week for delivering Meals on Wheels, then next week we are going camping for a few days. Other than that, normal schedule(crafts, etc.)

Andrea, I'm so sorry about your dog! They are family members to us, too, and it hurts so bad to lose one. Big hugs to you!
