Oh, Sandra, your poor ears!
Was it at least enjoyably noisy?

Oh, Sandra, your poor ears! Was it at least enjoyably noisy? For the most part. I tried reading them a story book (the kids who started first, of course, also finished first and imagine a half-dozen 3 and 4 year olds just waiting around). When I read, they got even louder... I was embarassed, but I figured they were all sitting in front of me and, if not always listening to the story itself, listening to me. Several asked if they could come back the next day. I figured that was a good sign. (Of course, I had to tell them I didn't know - I wouldn't be there the next day!)

Good morning ladies!!!!
We are heading out this afternoon for a trip to Chicago. We'll get there around 7 or 8 their time this evening and we'll leave to drive back on Sunday morning. The big thing is that I want to see the University of Chicago campus since I work there. We also bought tickets to the Willis (Sears) Tower.

It has been crazy here. Dh has been helping the kids get their house and the baby's room ready. Monday, we had another big scare and dh had to leave work and rush dd2 to the hospital again as she had signs of premature labor. They were at the hospital several hours until our sil could get off work to be with her. Turns out it wasn't labor, the baby decided to go breech again while in the pelvis. Once dh got home and got to bed, we got another call. After leaving the hospital, they had stopped to get some groceries before going home and their car broke down. I got up, dressed, and dd1 and I picked them up and got the car towed. The store was closed and they were alone in the dark lot. They were both almost in tears. We got home after 1 a.m. then turned around a few hours later as we all had chiropractic appointments yesterday. morning. Dh took dd2 to a morning appointment (cardiology) then brought her to me for the chiropractor appointment so he could go to work. After that I had to run dd1 home to care for the dogs and take dd2 back to the OB. After the OB we went back to the cardio as they wanted to get a heart monitor to wear. Of course it was about 100 degrees outside and I was not able to walk all the corridors in the hospital, so I waited in the car with the AC on. Not fun when the sun is beating down on the windshield.
Then it was off to the pharmacy. We decided we were much to tired and it was much to hot to make dinner, so I ordered gluten free pizza and just brought dd2 home with me. I fell asleep before sil came to get her. This morning I slept in until 10 a.m!
I'll be glad when this little one finally arrives. I did mention to dd2 that if she wants another, she might think about adoption next time! LOL!

Have a nice trip Michelle. I'm thinking that this year may be the last year I'll be able to have a regular garden. It'll just be watermelons starting next year since they don't require much maintenance. Summers are just way too hot for me to be out there with my health the way it is. Lenard may be able to step in and maintain one (like what I've had) for me but he has a lot to do outside already and he'll be 71 in October so the heat may be too much for him as he gets older. For twenty years I've grown peas, okra, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, herbs, cantelope, and watermelons. I'm almost grieving the idea of giving it up but my health comes first.

Michelle, I hope your trip is both enjoyable and super smooth.
Rebekah - that is just so much!
Gina, I completely understand what you mean by grieving about something like that. I wonder - have you considered winter gardening? You'd have to use different crops, but I always found it a nice change and enjoyed the other crops.

Sandra, I bet you did a great job with the little ones. Michelle, have a safe trip! Gina, I'm sorry you're unable to garden due to health issues. I completely understand. It's tough when you can't do what you want because your body won't cooperate.
Tonight, dh and I plan to do out for dinner after he gives piano lessons. We haven't spent much time together as we're always helping the kids or having other activities at church or his work.

Sandra, I've had church members ask me if I grow various greens. I grew spinach once about 18 yrs ago. It was called Indian Spinach and actually did fairly well in partial shade. Usually by the end of summer I'm tired of being in the garden but this fall I may actually enjoy getting in it since I can't do it now.
Rebekah, you and your hubby definitely need time together with no distractions.

Usually by the end of summer I'm tired of being in the garden but this fall I may actually enjoy getting in it since I can't do it now. Gina, up where we were I had great success over wintering with greens, beets (all kinds did really well), turnips (also did very well, but turned out not to be my favorite). Cabbages did well too but they were small. Each one would be the size of a big softball. It was kind of perfect for one meal for us. It didn't matter if I planted green, red or savoy. I planted them in 2'x2' boxes. Maybe they needed more root space. Garlic did AMAZING. And you kind of get a double crop - the flowering stems are delicious. You cut them, and harvest the bulbs at the end of the season. Potatoes also did well for us... but you have to be SUPER careful about sourcing good seed potatoes. I used potatoes from the store the first few times with no problems. Then I used some contaminated seed and it brought in a disease that threatened ALL nightshade plants (including tomatoes and eggplant). It was a pain to get rid of. Potatoes timing was also a little tricky. I finally figured out that I needed to plant in January and harvest around June. I planted broccoli and cauliflower, but they just did okay, not great. I also planted brussels sprouts. I felt like they could also have done really well, but I never tried them again after that attempt.

Good morning ladies!!! I am back - and boy am I tired We packed a lot into 2 days. We did do the Willis Tower, and both managed to step out into the glass box that juts out over the city. Gina, I'm sorry that you aren't going to be able to keep gardening, but hopefully a winter garden will work better for you. Rebekah, I hope that you and your DH were able to have a nice date night.

Michelle, I was thinking abotu your trip and the Willis Tower. DH has his monthly trip next week, and since DS1 & DS2 will be working and DS3 will be at camp, I am going with him. I'd been thinking about going to the Willis Tower... but maybe not. I'm not a heights person!
Today turned out to be a good day. I wasn't so sure when I got up! I mentioned DS2 sweeling up (from this wisdom teeh removal that was four weeks ago today). Well, he worke me at mmidnight because he was in so much pain. There wasn't a whole lot that I could do for him that he hadn't done, but I convinced him to put an ice pack on the swelling and sleep in the recliner instead of his bed. I ended up staying up with him until he was asleep. I had some horrific experiences in my 20's getting my teeth sorted - thankfully, none of the episodes were prolonged, but they stick in your memory, you know? Anyway, I didn't get back to sleep until after 2... that alarm came early. First class... fine. Second class... our internet tanks (not just for me, for DH and DS2 who'd gotten up by then).
I took the box I wasn't able to drop off on Saturday to the same store today... and voila, they took it quickly and efficiently.
I've started doing some volunteering with older folks. I can't talk about any of it directly because of confidentiality. While each time I've gone has been a positive experience, it can be draining. It takes a lot to be kind of helpful to someone you don't know. But today's time was really great - I actually felt really good when it was time to leave.
I got home and had a late lunch.. and then a NAP. I was out almost immediately. DH woke me up about 45 minutes later - DS2 was able to get in to the dentist, but he didn't feel good about driving. So I drove him.
Our family dentist is SO good. Not only did DS feel better right away, but I heard the dentist laying out the plan: the goal was to get DS better enough that the oral surgeon can see him next week, but if DS is NOT better by Wednesday, they're going to plan B and I even heard plan C.
So, DS is back on track. The next big step is getting his Rx (waiting on that from the pharmacy).
Overall, a day that could have gone badly but worked out very nicely.

So glad that DS2 was able to get to the dentist and that there is a plan.
For the Willis Tower - you don't have to step out into the box. There are a bunch of windows to look out and man, can you see forever. We bought our tickets ahead of time and we paid the extra money to do expediated, I highly recommend going that route.
The other thing that we did, that we thoroughly enjoyed, was to walk along the river.

Today I'm taking the grandkids to the Waterpark for about three or four hours. Then we'll go for an early dinner. Fortunately we'll be getting to the Waterpark when they first open so I'll be able to get a close parking spot. Since I can't be in the heat (it raises my heart rate) for more than 15 minutes I'll ask my cardiologist for a handicap parking placard. The park has a huge covered sitting area with fans so it's very cool. Plus I'll be the water at times.
